"In its first three months downtown, I've seen Butter Chicken Co. prove so popular that owner Asad Sheikh has already secured a second location: a new outpost at 500 H Street NE slated to open in early February. The original, instantly popular spot peaks at lunchtime and often closes once it sells out of about 300 butter chicken orders a day, while the H Street location will open at noon, briefly close in the afternoon, then reopen for dinner from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., six days a week (closed Mondays). The menu centers on a namesake butter chicken rich with ghee, cream, tomatoes, and fenugreek, with chicken tikka masala and a vegetable biryani as alternatives; every $11 tray comes with saag paneer and spicy chickpeas, and refrigerated cases offer mango lassis and Indian sodas such as masala-spiced Kashmira, Thums Up, and Limca. Chef Praveen Kumar is Sheikh’s partner, and Sheikh—after opening two Bombay Street Food locations in Columbia Heights and Capitol Hill over the past 15 months—is already exploring bringing Butter Chicken Co. to Arlington (Rosslyn and Ballston) and expanding Bombay Street Food to Dupont Circle." - Gabe Hiatt
