"A beloved worker-owned butcher shop opened down the block last year; the writer appreciated having a non-pork meat option beyond questionable supermarket choices or overpriced trendy cuts. The shop is "not pretentious or inaccessible in any way," and on top of a stellar butcher case it prepares sandwiches, various baked goods, and rotisserie chickens fresh each day. "This cookie ($4) was incredible and frankly, hard to describe in the way that the lard itself didn’t disappear, but its flavor simply worked in this sweet application.
