"I'm excited that the Utah-based drive-thru soda shop Swig will open its 39th location — the chain's first in Texas — at 371 Southwind Lane in the Fairview Town Center with a planned May 6 opening. Founded in St. George, Utah, Swig is famous for its "dirty soda" creations, including the Dirty Dr. Pepper (Dr. Pepper swirled with coconut) and 44-ounce cups of Mountain Dew or Diet Coke mixed with half and half and syrups like strawberry puree and English toffee; customers can choose menu items like "Poppin’ Pineapple" or "Beach Bum" or design their own sodas. Beyond sodas, Swig also offers energy drinks, boba teas, and snacks such as sugar cookies and salted pretzel bites. A New York Times article traced the popularity of soda shops in Utah to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' prohibition on tea and coffee, but founder Nicole Tanner told the paper that Swig has broader appeal, saying expansion into Oklahoma proved "people like their soda everywhere." - Adele Chapin
