"After several delays, long-running and popular LES shop the Pickle Guys is finally opening its first snack shop, Diller. The restaurant, which was first announced years ago, will open on Thursday at 357 Grand St., at Essex Street. Since then, however, the menu has changed a bit. Instead of kosher burgers and chicken sliders as initially planned, Diller will serve a Beyond burger and a slew of fried foods in addition to its star item, fried pickles. Other fried items include baby corn, okra, and mushrooms. The menu also features items that reflect the Jewish and Asian communities of the neighborhood, resulting in fusion items like pickled okra rice balls and a “reuben egg roll” made with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and pastrami-spiced lentils. The pickled goods are sourced from the Pickle Guys shop next door, though a representative for the snack bar notes that Diller is a standalone project.
