"I've followed this 16-year project closely: a $3 billion, 4.5-million-square-foot retail and entertainment complex in the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, NJ, planned to house more than 100 restaurants — including over 20 full-service restaurants, two food halls (a Vice-branded hall and a Kosher hall), and roughly 50 grab-and-go options — with many food outlets slated to open in spring 2019. No individual concepts have been announced beyond the Munchies food hall, which Digiday reports will feature 18 stalls (including pizza and sandwich stalls), a cooking studio, two rotating pop-up restaurants servicing 400 seats, and branded merchandise and marketing events to drive revenue. The development also includes an indoor ski slope, a Nickelodeon water park, a DreamWorks theme park, and an ice-skating rink; originally branded Xanadu, it was rebranded American Dream after Triple Five took over, and despite criticism of its previous garish exterior — former governor Chris Christie called it “the ugliest damn building in New Jersey and maybe America” — the developer plans to turn the outside white and expects about 40 million visitors a year." - Stefanie Tuder
