"I followed Smallgoods Cheese Shop & Cafe from its beginnings as a Fall 2016 farmer’s-market vendor to its first brick-and-mortar on La Jolla Boulevard, the home of founders Jenny and Mike Eastwood. Jenny left a corporate career to work at legendary Murray’s Cheese as a cheesemonger and affineur in its cheese cave, and the Eastwoods founded Smallgoods to support and promote small American farmstead cheeses, charcuterie, and other gourmet American products. Though they’ll continue vending at the La Jolla Open Aire Market, Little Italy Mercato, and Hillcrest Farmer’s Market, their 2,550-square-foot cafe (open Tuesday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.) expands into a full-fledged eatery serving Counter Culture Coffee and breakfast and lunch items sourced from their farmer’s market vendor friends, with a larger menu of sandwiches and cheese and charcuterie plates in development. The shop also plans to host cheese-pairing classes and other special events." - Candice Woo
