"In SoMa, I found a neighborhood-y, no-frills sports bar run by Jerremi Clark that’s struggling to cover an $11,000 monthly rent; Clark owns multiple businesses and, while approved for grants and loans, is still waiting for funds. To keep things afloat Trademark is leasing its kitchen to fried-chicken spot SF Chickenbox (splitting beer and liquor profits), selling to-go drinks, and offering gift cards (100% of proceeds go to its 16 laid-off staff; patrons have bought roughly $1,500). Clark hopes to use a patio that fits 46 more people but has been denied a Conditional Use Authorization after prior noise complaints shut patio access; he’s also deeply worried that the neighborhood’s thinning office workforce will decimate weekday foot traffic.
