"Inside the new 14-story Marriott at 1011 K Street NW, I found a lively lobby-level bar serving naan flatbreads, truffle fries, creative cocktails, and an all-day casual menu; the neon-lit bar doubles as the check-in stand to its 200 rooms and anchors a daily happy hour (4 p.m. to 7 p.m.) with deep discounts—signature cocktails like the “Relationship Status” margarita are cut to $6, draft beers are $5, and snacks such as the buffalo chicken flatbread are $7. The hotel was booked solid on its third day, and the lobby is designed to keep customers lingering with lockers for briefcases, board games, tic-tac-toe, cozy seating, and playful political trinkets like “Vote for Pizza” pillows and “Make Pizza Not War” pizza boxes. A mezzanine level—a feature rare across Moxy’s 40 properties worldwide—offers a bird’s-eye view decorated with disco balls, busts of U.S. presidents, a chain link–covered booth for dates, and a ping-pong table for late-night competition; for now diners order from the bar, though staff may soon take orders on the upper level." - Tierney Plumb
