"I visited the new Coral Gables outpost of Belly Fish, which opened its first brick-and-mortar location on July 20 after growing from a delivery kitchen in Aventura during the COVID-19 pandemic and expanding to three delivery and takeout locations across South Florida. The space has a simple, clean look meant to let the food take center stage; the menu features a variety of nigiri, maki, rotating specials, and their popular handrolls, which are prepared with a disposable film between the seaweed and rice to maintain crispness. Notable dishes include a spicy hamachi tostada topped with yuzu-kosho aioli and Japanese hamachi and an Australian Wagyu Dragon Roll served with house wagyu jus. For omakase lovers there’s an “Omakase Combo” for $49.95 that includes ten pieces of nigiri and a choice of roll, and lunch specials like a sushi-and-tostada combo for $21.95 are geared toward the large midday crowd. Co-founder and chef Rodrigo Bravo, who has worked alongside Joan Roca and Masaharu Morimoto, leads the kitchen. Belly Fish Coral Gables is open for lunch and dinner daily." - Olee Fowler
