"I learned that Compass Coffee, a local veteran-owned roaster, donated 2,600 bottles of hand sanitizer to support D.C. Public Schools students and teachers as they return to in-person learning. Early in the pandemic the company switched from producing vanilla syrups to making hand sanitizer for first responders, which allowed them to rehire laid-off staff and give back to the community. A recent conversation with a teacher who is a regular at the chain inspired Compass to produce and donate additional sanitizer for DCPS, and as production manager Chas Newman said in a press release, “We’re really proud to be able to help teachers and students at DCPS as they begin in-person education. It’s been a hard year for us all, but maybe most so for teachers. We’re glad to do our part to make things just a little bit easier for them and their students.”" - Adele Chapin
