"Opening in Soho this autumn, this new Sri Lankan restaurant is run by first-time restaurateurs Eroshan and Aushi Meewella, Colombo-born designers who aim to present the bold, unapologetic flavours of Sri Lankan home-cooking in a contemporary manner. The menu, drawn from the staff’s family recipes and prepared by a fully Sri Lankan team, features coconut-based curries such as Kammala’s kalu pol pork and a southern black pepper prawn fry, plus vegetarian and naturally vegan dishes like Kumar’s pineapple curry and Ala Thel Dala (richly spiced potatoes). Tea-time inspired bites include Aunty Nalini’s fish cutlets (arancini-style balls) and patties, while fresh sambols (pol sambol, seeni sambol and green sambol), pol roti, string hoppers, hoppers and turmeric rice provide balance and bulk. The owners say they will represent Colombo’s diverse communities (Sinhalese, Tamil, Moor, Burger and Malay) and foster nostalgia and community through home-style recipes. The interior, designed with Studio Fils and Whitebox London, channels Tropical Modernism with organic, earthy tones, abundant plants, aged brickwork, raw timber and polished cement." - Adam Coghlan
