"In Little Burgundy I welcomed a new casual Japanese option on Notre‑Dame Street just east of Atwater: Bar Otto, opened by the same team behind downtown Otto. I found a solid selection of char‑grilled yakitori (including vegetarian options), a sashimi section built on chef‑owner Hiroshi Kitano’s strong seafood‑supplier connections, and a couple of dishes borrowed from their Plateau restaurant—ramen and mazeman (brothless ramen). The program focuses on both wine and sake, with private import agencies used to assemble a mostly natural wine list (including some rare Japanese wine in Montreal) alongside about 15 sakes. Housed in the former Toi, Moi & Café location, the space received a minimalist makeover with plenty of raw wood panelling and furniture; it’s open at 2695 Notre‑Dame W from 5 to 11 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday." - Tim Forster
