"Opened in the former 8 Degrees Plato space (which closed in December 2024), this new bar from hospitality veterans Erik Annonson, Elliot Hoffman and Brittney Carnahan is designed as a relaxed spot where patrons can pop in for a single drink or linger for hours. The team reimagined the 2,400-square-foot room with design work by Danny Jacobs, repurposing materials from the previous tenant—former baker’s racks and bleacher wood—as drink rails, and replacing communal benches with a couch and individual chairs; large front windows lift open to blur indoor and patio seating. The original beer cooler remains stocked with local packaged brews, classics like Coors Banquet, wine, cider and nonalcoholic options. Two side-pull faucets (a nod to an originally planned Side Pull Brewery) serve a creamy, traditionally poured Czech-style lager that the bar commissioned from Hamtramck’s Florian East Lagers & Alesto as its house beer; it can be enjoyed straight, paired with a shot of Old Grand-Dad in custom Pewabic Pottery shot glasses, or as a mlíko shot—a dense, foamy Czech-style pour meant to be consumed in one go. While no kitchen is operated on-site, rotating pop-ups (opening weekend featured Bao Chicka Bao Bao and Gajiza Dumplins) are regular, and guests may also bring outside food. Regulars can join a “pal” membership for $80/year for perks including discounts on the house lager and lager-and-shot combos, 15% off drafts/wine/cocktails, 25% off on Mondays, 10% off merchandise, and access to three annual member parties; after two weekends of soft service, the bar officially debuted on Friday, May 23." - Courtney Burk
