"It's almost showtime at Young’s Kung Fu Action Theatre & Laundry, a new bar from Sam Young that plays like a kitschy, tongue-in-cheek movie set rather than a real laundromat: a working dry-cleaning rack sits behind the bar and kung fu classics will be projected over it. Opening October 11 with hours initially 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., Thursday through Sunday, the spot at 841 Larkin Street occupies the former home of the Gangway and will keep a rainbow flag out front to signal that all are welcome; preservationists have also salvaged much of the Gangway decor and memorabilia. Compared with Sam Young's Kozy Kar, this place is meant to be tamer, though it still features a motorized spinning “bed” seating platform in a Tron-inspired back room with green lights and infinity mirrors. The bar holds a full liquor license with standard spirits and cocktails, will eventually offer snow cones from a machine and self-serve popcorn, and pairs old movie-theater seating and red Chinese lanterns with strong cocktails in an aesthetic the writer likens to Grauman's Chinese Theater; given Young's penchant for courting controversy, any customer complaints might well be played for laughs." - Caleb Pershan
