"Although the California burrito looks like it should be amazing and is one of the meatiest here, both the fries and the carne asada lack much flavor; the meat is tender but shows little evidence of a marinade. A good dose of pico keeps it moist, and the homemade tortilla is notable. This tiny mom-and-pop with a spare dining room and a small patio survives amid La Jolla chains, and the service is very sweet. The thick, smoky red sauce (a ground-pepper paste) was among the best in our survey and is worth coming back for." - Phaedra Cook
