"In response to a surge in COVID-19 cases and slowing vaccination uptake, this public health agency recommended that everyone—regardless of vaccination status—wear masks in crowded indoor public settings, specifically calling out grocery stores, malls, large events, and casinos. The guidance was issued amid a rising seven-day moving average (474.7 new cases as of July 11) and recent reports of 771 new cases, 51 hospitalizations and 13 deaths on July 9; only 43.3% of state residents were fully vaccinated at the time. The recommendation is advisory rather than a city, county, or statewide mandate, and it prompted some local resorts to impose staff mask requirements and prompted cautions from neighboring jurisdictions about travel." - Susan Stapleton
