"I've observed that staffers at Trader Joe’s have been calling for hazard pay for weeks; while management at several chains has supplied safety equipment like masks and gloves, calls for hazard pay have largely been overlooked. Governor Andrew Cuomo publicly urged Congress to include funding for hazard pay — proposing a 50 percent bonus for essential workers — and Senate Democrats have pushed for substantial federal relief for frontline workers. The issue feels urgent after several grocery workers nationwide have died from COVID-19, including a staffer at a Scarsdale outpost of Trader Joe’s, and with dining-in shutdowns driving more customers to stores, added protections and benefits are clearly needed." - Tanay Warerkar
