"A major airport employer where a unionized barista described meaningful workplace supports: union-negotiated benefits include eight weeks of family medical leave (12 weeks for cesarean births), the right to take up to three years of leave, and a $17.50 hourly wage—an improvement from about $12 when she started. Union advocacy also produced practical accommodations for nursing parents, including pumping stations installed throughout the terminal and a clear entitlement for workers to use them following a successful grievance. Despite these advances, employees there continue to contend with the national infant-formula shortage and the burdens of sourcing specific formulas, showing that better workplace policies ease but do not eliminate broader caregiving and supply challenges." - Sharon K.
