"After a year away, Babycakes has returned to Hillcrest at a new spot on Fourth and Robinson and will hold a grand opening with a ribbon cutting, giveaways, and specials from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 14. I note the cafe is now operating daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours kicking in after the grand opening. It's best known for its cupcakes, offered in more than 20 flavors — including salted caramel, red velvet, blood orange, and vanilla strawberry mousse — and it also provides gluten-free and vegan options. Other desserts include a crème brûlée cheesebake, flourless chocolate cake, tarts, and cookies, and custom birthday and special-occasion cakes made at Babycakes’ central kitchen in the South Bay can be picked up at this location. Founder Christopher Stavros says a full coffee menu will be coming soon, and early next year he plans to add a bubble bar pouring champagne, prosecco and other sparklers, as well as beer and wine." - Candice Woo
