"I'm expecting a fast-casual Modern Indian concept to open in Chinatown next month at 740 Sixth Street NW; Spice 6 Modern Indian, a six-year-old brand, will occupy the 2,500-square-foot space formerly home to the short-lived Jewish deli On Rye. Chef Upendra Thapaliya, a native of Nepal, offers naan pizza, rice bowls, salads, naan wraps, and kabob platters at each quick-service location, and the Chinatown outpost will exclusively feature a full dosa menu and a Southern Indian donut made from lentil flour, onions, and spices that is dipped in sambar and served with a coconut and tomato chutney. This will be the brand’s third location (after spots in Hyattsville, Maryland, and Vienna, Virginia), with a fourth slated to debut in Westfield Montgomery Mall’s food court in mid-May." - Tierney Plumb
