"In Hayward, Playt — from the same owner as Oakland’s Pican — will present a series of Black History Month specials that reflect traditional techniques and African influences: Feb. 3–9 braised oxtails over crispy fried rice with succotash; Feb. 10–17 curried chicken with peanuts over yellow rice; Feb. 18–24 Louisiana-inspired smoked ham hocks with Cajun red beans and rice; and Feb. 25–28 meatloaf with mashed potatoes, mustard greens, and molasses barbecue sauce, with every Wednesday featuring a different black-owned winery." - Janelle Bitker
