"I note that the building owners Deborah and Jerry, who own 1151 Folsom Street—the location of the SoMa nightclub Raven Bar—have waived Raven’s April rent and allowed the club to defer May’s rent over a period of two years during the state-mandated closure of bars and restaurants. They say their decision was shaped by their experience owning a bar in the same space during the 1989 earthquake, when South of Market suffered extensive damage and the year-long Bay Bridge closure hurt their business and employees, and Raven’s marketing director Sean Colin says it is the club’s hope that other building owners will find creative ways to work with tenants so communities can weather the economic impact of COVID-19." - Eve Batey
