"Tucked into a Home Depot parking lot in Cypress, LJ’s Lil’ Cafe is a brown trailer opened in September 2021 by John Clarke and Lydia Holmes after years working together at Seasons 52; I found it impressively independent and perfectly positioned across from Cypress College and in front of Home Depot for grab-and-go traffic. The menu revolves around handhelds—hot dogs, a burger, a Tex‑Mex queso take on a cheesesteak, and four hot dog variations—but the star is the breakfast burrito lineup: the OG uses bacon and Portuguese sausage sourced from Fullerton’s Masterlink Sausage and Meats; the Queso offers a drippy cheese sauce with ground beef and hatch chiles imported from New Mexico; and the Spicy (my top pick) pairs hot Italian sausage, grilled jalapeños, tater tots, eggs, and cheese for great char and crunchy texture; each burrito is served with either chunky salsa or, surprisingly, Alabama white sauce. Operating out of an all‑electric trailer with only one flattop and two small deep fryers makes keeping up with orders challenging, but there is a picnic table if you want to eat there; they’re open Tuesday–Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 5800 Lincoln Avenue in Cypress (directly in front of the Home Depot entrance), and you can call ahead at (657) 238-6110. Clarke and Holmes live in Cypress and, despite a brief shutdown when their son was born eight weeks early, are committed to keeping the spot going with local support." - Sean Vukan
