"I’m intrigued by the giant lodge-themed, dog-friendly restaurant opening next week at 20030 Northwest Freeway in the Cypress Crossing development — the first Space City outpost of the national chain. Interiors are designed to feel like a Rocky Mountain/Wyoming retreat where the founder’s family vacations, with lodge-like furnishings including fireplaces, rustic light fixtures and furniture, multiple flat-screen TVs throughout the bar, and a giant dog-friendly patio that even offers special dishes for diners’ four-legged companions. The enormous Americana menu features dishes like shrimp & grits with house-made sausage and bell pepper gravy; wild boar chili with indigo cornbread fries; lamb barbacoa tacos; and a seared ahi tuna salad, alongside burgers, sandwiches, salads, rice and noodle bowls, meat-laden entrees, and vegetarian options. Desserts are made in house and include a compelling gluten-free carrot cake made with almond flour and pineapple buttercream as well as an apple-huckleberry open-faced pie, and drinks range from a smoked maple bacon old fashioned and a hibiscus margarita with small-batch Lunazul tequila to local beers and Lazy Dog’s own line of brews. It officially opens July 31 at 11 a.m., with hours Monday–Friday 11 a.m.–12 a.m. and Saturday–Sunday 9 a.m.–12 a.m." - Alaena Hostetter
