"Opening at the Modera Sandy Springs complex at the end of February, I learned that District M Sushi will be a 140-seat restaurant led by Chef Jackie Chang, formerly of Umi in Buckhead and O-Kuin Westside. It will offer à la carte sushi, traditional omakase experiences, and a sashimi moriawase, along with charcoal-grilled meats and vegetables. The 20-seat sushi bar — which District M claims is the largest in Atlanta — will showcase Chang’s edomae-style omakases using fresh fish from Japan, a style that involves both cooked and cured fish and rice prepared quickly (usually within 45 seconds). The menu includes three omakase options: a market-priced, all-you-can-eat Benzaiten; the five-course Bishamonten (carpaccio, ten pieces of sashimi or six pieces of nigiri, soup, black cod, and dessert) for $60 per person; and a sushi-bar-only nigiri omakase (an appetizer, sushi roll, soup, 14 pieces of nigiri, and dessert) for $90 per person, plus a moriwase in which Chang chooses up to five types of sashimi or 12 pieces of assorted nigiri. À la carte sushi selections feature white fish, mackerel, jackfish, eel, and roe, and the restaurant says it will serve only bluefin tuna and the fattiest, “best” portion of the tuna belly (otoro). Beyond sushi there will be charcoal-grill meats and other cooked entrees, including tableside-cooked wagyu beef and a moromi miso pork belly with kimchee Brussels sprouts. A 10-seat bar will serve cocktails, local and imported beers (including Hitachino on draft), a selection of sakes, and Asian whiskeys such as Kavalan, Iwai, and Hibiki; an outdoor patio with a window bar will seat 30 additional people, and an upstairs lounge doubles as a 30-seat private dining room. Lunch and dinner hours are listed (Mon–Fri lunch 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.; dinner Mon–Thu 5–10 p.m., Fri 5–11 p.m., Sat 12–11 p.m., Sun 12–10 p.m.)." - Beth McKibben
