"After a year of gutting the former Moon Room/the Griffin space, I walked into a 1970s‑inspired den rehabilitated by partners John Bower, Justin Farmer, Brandon Bradford, Joe Curran, and John Condo (with Jessica Bower helping). They retained features like a wrought‑iron enclosed front patio, a stunning center fireplace, and a winding brick ceiling, and outfitted the interior with big leather banquettes, orange hanging lamps, ample room, a handful of TVs, a pool table, and an enclosed lounge for those who prefer hearing a DJ or live band; there’s even space for movie nights or karaoke, and weekly live events are planned. The High Low sits on Los Feliz Boulevard across from Tam O’Shanter and near several walkable bars. Food follows a Tex‑Mex direction similar to its crosstown sister bar—Arizona‑born Justin Farmer will bring puffy tacos, nachos, queso, and burgers—while drinks are straightforward with an emphasis on fresh juices; notable cocktails include the king pine (Sazerac rye, lemon, simple syrup, pineapple gum syrup, and aquafaba) and the disco inferno (Verde Momento mezcal, lemon, agave, aquafaba, and a chili‑sea salt sprinkle). Pricing and hours are clear: well drinks $8, house cocktails $12, drafts $5–$10, a daily happy hour featuring $6 wells and discounts on select drafts and house cocktails, and opening hours starting next Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., with weekend brunch to be added as the staff gets their opening sea legs." - Mona Holmes
