"After more than five decades in La Mesa, I learned that Anthony’s Fish Grotto, the longtime seafood restaurant, announced on Facebook it would end its takeout and retail operations on Saturday, May 9. Thanks to an overwhelming response from customers, owner Craig Ghio decided to reopen on Wednesday, May 13 on a trial basis, resuming takeout and retail for the next eight weeks while he monitors the restaurant’s cash flow. Ghio had initially closed to conserve cash until restaurants were notified of rules for restarting dine-in service (Governor Gavin Newsom was expected to share those guidelines on Tuesday, May 12), and although tremendous public support and funds received through the Payment Protection Program prompted the temporary reopening, he warned that if the rules are too onerous and profitable operation doesn’t seem possible, he will consider closing permanently." - Candice Woo
