"I’m marking the long-awaited return of Jollibee to the Mira Mesa area with the opening of its new 3,100-square-foot Mira Mesa Boulevard restaurant; the Philippine mega-chain (over 5,800 locations worldwide) originally had a neighborhood store until 2013 and still operates an outpost in National City. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, indoor and outdoor dining will remain closed for now, but the restaurant launches with call-ahead pick-up, walk-in takeout and drive-thru service. The company says this opening is part of a broader push to expand in San Diego—citing the city’s sizable Filipino community—and follows a pandemic-era rollout of 12 new North American stores with 19 more U.S. locations planned for 2021. Founded 45 years ago, the menu blends Western comfort food with Asian flavors and features signature items like Chickenjoy (their hand-breaded, marinated fried chicken), sweet-style Jolly Spaghetti with ham, ground meat, and hot dogs, and the classic Peach Mango Pie." - Candice Woo
