"A half-acre garden oasis in the middle of the Arizona desert within the Navajo Nation, planted in 2016 in partnership with the local Teesto Chapter. The garden produces a wide variety of vegetables and flowers—including broccoli, peppers, tomatoes, amaranth, chilies, potatoes, corn, and garlic—and hosts gardening classes and tastings led by a master gardener and others to teach locals what will grow in the desert and how to use it in the kitchen. These hands-on programs were created in response to limited cooking skills and persistent food insecurity on the reservation, and staff have worked with Native chefs and educators to make sure surplus produce does not go to waste." - Andi Murphy
