"After a long wait, I learned that beloved Miami doughnut shop The Salty Donut will open its Dallas location on June 2 at 414 West Davis Street in the Bishop Arts District. Due to the coronavirus pandemic it will offer pickup and delivery only for the time being. This will be the first location outside Florida for owners Amanda Pizarro and Andy Rodriguez, who have built a cult following with their sweet-and-savory doughnuts, gluten-free baked goods, coffee and other breakfast eats; their first shop opened in Wynwood in 2015 and became known for long lines for treats like the signature maple bacon doughnut and viral moments such as a Valentine’s Day pop-up that sold out in 48 minutes. For the Dallas outpost they developed Texas-centric doughnuts including Lone Star, a star-shaped pastry filled with ruby red grapefruit curd; a brioche doughnut soaked in housemade horchata mix; and the Peach Cobbler, a vegan doughnut stuffed with caramelized peaches. To build hype they launched a “doughnut lottery” in which locals can enter to win pre-opening packs—forty winners will be announced each day starting tomorrow through May 31." - Brittanie Shey
