"Opening in May at 901 Valencia Street (at 20th Street), I'm looking forward to the new Mixt on Valencia, the chain's ninth San Francisco location that aims to blend quick desk lunches with longer, casual dinner service; hours will be 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Like the Cow Hollow outpost, the Valencia store will offer different seating options, beer and wine, market plates and sides, and an emphasis on all-day dining that prompted the brand to drop “Greens” from its original name. The team conceived a tongue-in-cheek “Salad Lounge” in a side space—expected to be over-the-top and serving drinks like kale mimosas—and the shop will push indulgent twists such as really good bacon on salads or pairing beer with salad. New executive chef Jeffrey Amber (from Bi-Rite) brings creative ideas for entrees—swapping expected croutons for crunchy elements like crispy chickpeas with dukkah—to help draw diners at any time of day. Mixt Valencia will also extend the brand’s takeout and delivery reach through services like Caviar and UberEats, and it plans a cheeky promo of a free picnic tote with the purchase of four or more salads. While sustainability remains a goal, the company says it talks less about it now that such practices are more widely expected." - Caleb Pershan
