"For nearly 40 years Tequila’s in Rittenhouse was constantly buzzing: servers flying to and from the kitchen, guests laughing over shared plates of enchiladas, chiles rellenos, and antojitos, and margaritas and coco loco drinks shaking behind the long bar to the rhythm of Spanish music. It felt like a home away from home—regulars claimed weekly bar seats, neighbors knew staff by name, and servers memorized customers’ orders—and when a fire ripped through the restaurant in February 2023 the community response demonstrated how deeply rooted the Suro family’s place was in the neighborhood, with industry peers, longtime customers, guest bartender nights, agave classes, fundraisers, and donations helping make a reopening at the same address with a new food and drink experience possible." - Alisha Miranda
