"I'm glad to see Pop’s Bar, the Mission District dive on the corner of 24th and York streets, celebrated this month as San Francisco’s newest Legacy Business; owners Spike Krouse and Tom Tierney describe themselves as stewards of the longstanding watering hole and say the designation will help them preserve it by offsetting potential rent hikes. Its roots stretch back to Prohibition when Carl Joseph Saxsenmeie, or “Pops,” served alcohol in the space when it operated as the Clubhouse, and although it has changed hands many times it has always remained a classic neighborhood watering hole beloved for its welcoming atmosphere, colorful cast of regular characters, and bustling dance floor." - Lauren Saria
