"Planning an expansion to Montreal, Kettleman’s Bagel Co. is eyeing storefronts after founder Craig Buckley—originally from Montreal—said he’s in talks to buy an existing Montreal bagel-maker to set up operations; no locations are set yet but he’s hinted at the possibility of entering suburban markets. I’ve observed that Kettleman’s has been doing wood-fired bagels in Ottawa since 1993 and that its flagship store on Bank Street in the Glebe has become an institution, operating 24 hours and offering bagels, coffee, sandwiches and more; the company now has two additional 24/7 locations and a substantial sandwich menu featuring a breakfast sandwich, chopped liver, a lox special and a BLT, plus a range of house cream cheese options and the practice of actually applying the cream cheese to the bagel. The chain presents itself as a bigger 24-hour operation than typical Montreal bakeries and advertises “award winning world famous bagels,” along with spreads, salads and baked treats you won’t find elsewhere." - Tim Forster
