"A massive mixed-use project at 700 Pennsylvania Avenue SE is planned as a seven-story development that could be anchored by a new cafe being conceived by the development team. Real estate sources say an eatery modeled after the Austrian-themed Kafe Leopold in Cady’s Alley is one option, and D.C. coffeehouse Busboys and Poets has shown interest though its arrival seems unlikely. 700 Penn is a joint venture between Stanton and EastBanc — the latter also owns West End’s year-old Upper West Side Cafe — and EastBanc founder Anthony Lanier says the team generally wants to avoid concepts prevalent in other parts of the city while reviewing “all of our options.” Lanier adds the tenant decision will come after the summer, and the new restaurant, slated to debut in 2019, could range from 3,000 to 8,000 square feet." - Tierney Plumb
