Topgolf, a Massive Sports Bar and Golfer’s Paradise, Comes to Los Angeles - Eater LA
"The City of El Segundo hopes to transform the public municipal golf course The Lakes into the newest Topgolf location some time next year, reports the Daily Breeze. The popular entertainment and sports hub, which has a massive outlet the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, will transform El Segundo’s driving range into a sports bar atmosphere with food and drinks. The new Topgolf will turn the current two-story driving range into a three story, climate controlled building with electronic scoreboard and 100 hitting bays. Each station will have food and drink choices, which means a leisurely day or evening with friends hitting golf balls. The Las Vegas Topgolf features menu items like margaritas, old fashioneds, and Long Island iced teas to go with crispy rock shrimp, kalbi short rib tacos, chicken wings, and flatbreads. Heftier dishes include grilled steak pitas, burgers, and even desserts like “adult” donut holes. Think of Topgolf like a modern bowling alley that’s good for amateurs and big parties to hang out. Behind the driving bays, at least at the Vegas location, there’s ample lounge seating with multiple bars sprinkled throughout the space. Topgolf also changes the game from traditional driving ranges somewhat with electronic targets that award points when balls land in them. In addition to the driving range, which Topgolf will manage, Billy Casper Golf will be rehabilitating the actual nine hole course, adding lights to allow for evening golf. According to the Daily Breeze, Topgolf will invest $40 million into the publicly-owned property and pay another $38 million in rent over the next 20 years.
