"I learned that Mazra in Redwood City was significantly damaged in a fire on Tuesday, just two months after opening on April 1. The blaze began during dinner service behind the restaurant’s wood-fired charcoal grill and spread through its walls; though more than a hundred people were dining at the time, everyone was evacuated. As Redwood City Battalion Chief Chris Cottle put it, "Rather than a big dramatic fire, it was just one we were chasing around in the walls." Co-owner Jordan Makableh says he plans to rebuild the damaged parts of the restaurant. When it opened, Mazra offered a halal Levantine menu featuring crispy fried olives and halloumi rolls, branzino platters, and fresh falafel, among other dishes, and the restaurant’s Yelp page says it is scheduled to reopen on August 1." - Justine Jones
