"New Seasons Market is a local chain of Portland grocery stores. Workers at 11 unionized locations are going on strike in response to alleged unfair labor practices and failing to reach a new deal with management. The strike is in response to a proposal from management that allegedly included a dismal increase of 25 cents for new hires, a reduction in holiday pay, and increasing the hours necessary to receive benefits and paid time off. The market proposed a change to the contract that would get rid of company-funded health insurance in exchange for a higher wage. Despite these disputes, New Seasons Market states that it remains focused on minimizing disruption and providing expected service to customers. The New Seasons Labor Union, founded in 2022, represents over 1,000 workers and is advocating for a living wage minimum of $27.04, cost-of-living raises, increased paid time off, and more." - Rebecca Roland
