"When I’m in search of coffee and a place to hang for a while, I head to the recently opened Quat, a stunning and expansive compound from AJ Kim and Scott Sohn that they began envisioning back when they opened Highland Park’s original Kumquat Coffee in 2018, with an Apple headquarters–tinged campus feel. Walking through the entryway leads into an outdoor area perfect for socializing, working, or simply sipping, and the team prepares some of the best coffee and tea. I order standard coffee drinks as well as mashup inventions inspired by favorites at Kumquat and Loquat — the Claude Cooler (oolong, green plum extract, pea flower tea) and the Copenhagen (espresso, spiced apple cider syrup, mascarpone foam, cardamom, cinnamon) — then peer through the floor-to-ceiling windows to glimpse the bean roasting process. I can buy beans, sit in the sun (hopefully), and enjoy the vision from this innovative team dedicated to expanding coffee culture in Southern California." - Eater Staff
