"Located just blocks from the beach inside Solana Beach’s Cedros Collective, I found a 1,300-square-foot cafe with a 520-square-foot dog-friendly patio and a 10-seat fire table. Founded in Santa Clara in 2003 and co-owned by Jon and Jillian Dolin (Jillian is a native San Diegan), the company moved from a wholesale focus—supplying big tech companies, restaurants, markets, and universities—to growing its retail footprint; another location is scheduled to open next year in Mountain View and they’re actively looking for an additional San Diego-area outpost. The menu features classic espresso drinks, Bonavita pour-overs, nitro cold brew, organic heirloom teas, and specialty creations such as the Voodoo (a coconut mocha made with organic milk) and the Espresso Sunrise (espresso with organic blood orange soda and lime juice). The Cedros Avenue cafe also offers a substantial food selection—various toasts, cheesy egg and spinach biscuits, salads and sandwiches, and pastries delivered daily—and plans to expand further once it secures a beer and wine license. They were offering cold brew samples and discounts on bags of retail coffee ahead of a September 28 grand opening." - Candice Woo
