"Easing into existence at the Plaza Sorrento Shopping Center, I found isKumo, a new 540-square-foot weekend-only shop (opening Friday–Sunday, March 3–5 from noon to 8 p.m. or until sandwiches sell out, and planned to operate Friday–Monday in the weeks before its grand opening) specializing in Japanese-style sandwiches—sandos—built on soft squares of Japanese milk bread. Part of a cluster of food vendors that includes Sue’s Korean Kitchen and Nanay’s Best BBQ, it currently offers a classic egg salad sandwich made with Kewpie mayo; a chicken katsu sandwich featuring a panko-crusted chicken cutlet dressed with sweet-and-tangy tonkatsu sauce and shredded cabbage; a menchi katsu centered on a fried patty of ground meat; and a dessert sando with berries and other fresh fruit enveloped in billowy whipped cream, with drinks ranging from oolong tea to sweet milk teas. Seasonal sandwiches and sides may be added down the road." - Candice Woo
