"I'm reporting that Kerbey Lane Cafe is opening an entirely new restaurant at 300 South Lamar Boulevard that won't be the all-hours diner chain in South Austin but a distinct concept. The new spot is taking over the space that had been home to the short-lived Barile Restaurant (formerly Flour and Vine). Executive chef Joe Anguiano (formerly of the shuttered Vox Table) joined the team in May and will work on the menu; a Kerbey Lane rep said it will "serve high-quality food at a reasonable price" with a "more urban environment" that builds around Anguiano’s culinary abilities. The restaurant will offer early and late hours, is pegged to open sometime in early 2019, and the remodel of the space within the Cole apartment building is being handled by Weiss Architecture’s Richard Weiss and Future Design Now’s Kris Swift. Kerbey Lane CEO Mason Ayers said that if the restaurant is popular he will open other locations in Austin, and the company is also working on its eighth and ninth Austin locations in Mueller and on West Braker Lane. Kerbey Lane Cafe first opened on May 5, 1980, serving made-from-scratch comfort food out of a small house on Kerbey Lane, and today remains 100% family-owned and true to its original values." - Nadia Chaudhury
