"A longtime Italian restaurant at the corner of Nine Mile and Woodward Avenue, Como’s is a 66-year-old dining fixture that was bought by Peas & Carrots Hospitality (chef Zack Sklar, Jim Bellinson, and Josh Humphreys) after the spot closed last year due to ongoing food safety violations. The group paid more than $3 million for the 8,000-square-foot Ferndale building and decided to keep the name while planning a full renovation and a similar-but-updated Italian-American menu with a focus on pizzas and craft beers; the spot underwent major renovations and returned in 2019 in a rebooted form offering trendy Detroit-style square pan pizza made from a sourdough starter fermented for three days to produce a light, spongy, flavorful crust, topped with ingredients such as hand-cut pepperonis and Grana Padano cheese, and the menu also includes vegan and gluten-free options." - Brenna Houck
