"Perched sixty stories above Lower Manhattan, I find Manhatta—a new penthouse restaurant from Danny Meyer on the 60th floor of the midcentury 28 Liberty St. tower—that centers its design around sweeping views of the East River, Brooklyn, and downtown Manhattan. Meyer and his design team, led by Wade Little of Woods Bagot, deliberately pursued a domestic, cozy vibe rather than an overtly upscale feel: an open, subway‑tiled kitchen visible to diners (chosen, Meyer says, to act as a domestic counterbalance to the extraordinary views), a glass‑backed wine cellar on the dining floor, and warm finishes in honey, coffee, and deep aquamarine. The bar and tables are walnut (the bar paired with granite), perforated bronze pendant lights were selected to minimize window reflections after dark, and a panel of windows replaces typical bottle shelving behind the bar. Artwork was selected from the Artists’ Pension Trust. The food is French‑American—three courses are $78—with $10 bar snacks such as fried oysters and a croque madame; the restaurant opens Tuesday, July 17 and aims to combine sky‑high views with the down‑to‑earth spirit of a neighborhood spot." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya
