"I saw Facebook posts announcing a soft opening on Saturday and official hours on Sunday for the bakery’s fifth location in Lakeview at 141 W. Harrison Avenue (the former Pizza NOLA), marking the first Chez Pierre in New Orleans proper and bringing its signature French sweets and traditional Vietnamese specialties to the neighborhood. Display cases showed butter croissants, Linzer tortes, pastries and eclairs, and the menu here expands to prepared meals to go and weekend brunch items—made-to-order spring rolls, rice noodle dishes, banh mi—and specialty pastries like croissant doughnuts, along with a coffee bar using Torani syrups in coffee and espresso drinks. The location is run by the owners’ daughter, 20-year-old Taylor Bui; her mother began operating the company in 2005 and built locations in Metairie and Harahan. The Lakeview spot will also continue to be an outlet for king cakes during Carnival season and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m." - Clair Lorell
