"Run by Justin Hintze, the buzzy fried chicken cart Jojo became the hub of a grassroots fundraising campaign after the leak about the Supreme Court preparing to overturn Roe v. Wade; Hintze, who was at home sick when he saw the news, posted on Instagram promising to match donations to the northwestern branch of the National Network of Abortion Funds (asking for screenshots as proof) and pledged to match up to $1,000, then helped organize and tabulate the flooding proofs and matching pledges as other businesses joined in. The campaign far exceeded his expectations—individual and matched donations topped $32,000 by May 6—and echoed his earlier pandemic work raising funds to give free food from Jojo to anyone who came by; he said he “did not expect anything like this” (expecting about $2,000 at most), called the turnout amazing, and plans to continue the matching campaign at least through the week while he “plays it by ear.”" - Alex Frane
