"Who would’ve thought that one day I’d get to stay in Kylie Minogue’s bedroom?! A hotel has to be a special kind of fabulous to be fit for a queen of pop, but Drakes of Brighton comes with star-studded approval (Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, The Beach Boys have all stayed). With a prime spot on Brighton’s seafront, this grande dame - once a harbour master's house - is formed of two 1820s townhouses with 20 bedrooms and one of Brighton’s top restaurants on site. The team behind the popular Portobello Hotel in London and Canal House in Amsterdam have brought their skilled eyes to the interiors, setting about on a stylish makeover in 2024. Expect sumptuous rouge accents, sweeping staircases, free-standing baths and the most magnificent sea views in town. I soaked in bubbles and sipped wine while taking it all in, humming 'I should be so lucky' and feeling like a glamorous superstar. Right outside is Brighton Pier, but there is also easy access to a quieter stretch of beach, home to a sauna, an open-water swimming centre, beach sports and smart coffee shops. And with famous landmarks such as the Royal Pavilion and the Lanes a few footsteps away, it couldn’t be better placed for taking in the best of super-cool Brighton. You’re in a privileged spot - lap it up! Highs The views of the sea and pier are stunning, particularly at sunset Location - you’re just steps from the beach, and most other Brighton attractions and the station are within walking distance The staff are all incredibly friendly and some have worked in the hotel for decades - be sure to ask for their celeb stories The in-room bathtubs are showstoppers Dilsk restaurant is very well-acclaimed and the perfect treat for a special occasion Lows All the rooms are in the process of renovations, so some of the decor is yet to be upgraded There’s no lift, only a beautiful but very steep and narrow staircase Due to the beachfront location, there can be noise outside No twin rooms, and no wardrobes" - Imogen Cox
