"They say, “If it ain't broke, don't fix it”. So when sister pub The Swan Wedmore proved to have a winning formula, the team quickly struck gold again with this delightful market town pub-with-rooms. Since then a third, Timbrell's Yard, has popped up in Bradford on Avon – and all share the same warm, relaxed ethos. In picturesque Somerton, this ancient inn overlooking the market square and pretty church has 8 bedrooms - each with their own quirky charm. Some have claw-foot bathtubs, others retro wallpaper, colourful tiling or exposed original floorboards; all have super-comfortable beds and indulgent toiletries. But best of all is the laid-back restaurant, overseen by an ex River Cottage chef, whose ethos is local, seasonal produce. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, which called for delicious slow roasted pork belly with all the trimmings. Looking around, we saw a happy mix of locals, couples, families and groups all enjoying a homely rural welcome. Lovely stuff.
