Green Routes Cafe - Review - Cowley - Oxford - The Infatuation

"Any Greggs stan knows that a vegan sausage roll—in the right hands—is a thing of greatness. And Green Routes Cafe, a plant-based cafe on Magdalen Road is proof of that. Flaky pastry wrapped around a perfectly seasoned sausage with flecks of rosemary, it’s the ultimate mid-afternoon snack. They make a lovely almond croissant too, but pastry aside, the brunch dishes here are excellent. Think thick, bouncy pancakes with seasonal specials like rhubarb and cardamom, that’s the perfect balance of sweet and tart, plus vegan patty-filled bagels and crispy tater tots. There are three levels that all manage to feel snug in their own way. In the basement you’ll find the Friends-esque sunken sofa set-up that’s ideal for a coffee catch-up. The ground floor is where we’d come with our laptops, or for a solo coffee—they’re serious about an espresso here and cow’s milk is the only non-vegan thing on offer in the whole cafe. And the top floor is where we’d sit for a big family brunch. It’s a bit less chaotic and a lot more spacious.
