"With its bottle-green sign, cherry-red-tiled backsplash, and ’80s Spanish soundtrack, Casa Pepi is part retro diner, part Almodóvar fever dream. And while you (sadly) won’t be served by a young Antonio Banderas in a speedo, you can picture the characters from All About My Mother having an animated discussion over gin and tonics. The menu is mostly standard tapas with some unusual spins. The bomba is the classic Barceloneta recipe but with crunchy pine nuts “like Pepi’s mom used to make it,” while the Iberian presa—or shoulder blade‚ is served medium rare and impossibly tender on a base of just-salty-enough potatoes and black morcilla. Add wine and cava from €4.50 per glass and €20 for a bottle and there isn’t much to argue about." - isabelle kliger, isabelle kliger, isabelle kliger, isabelle kliger, isabelle kliger, isabelle kliger, isabelle kliger, isabelle kliger, isabelle kliger
